Our Mission

The mission of The Chesapeake Water Environment Association is to improve water quality and protect the environment in the Maryland, Delaware and Washington DC area. This is accomplished, with the support of our members, through the exchange of technical and scientific information in the form of seminars, luncheons, webinars and conferences.

2020 Sponsorship Opportunities

Although the Annual Sponsorships are closed for the 2020 year, there are many other sponsorship opportunities on our A La Carté Menu!  Check out page 2 of our Sponsorship brochure to see what’s available.  There are many great ways to get your business name and logo advertised throughout our membership. Sponsorship benefits include:
  • Increased corporate visibility and marketing opportunities within a wide audience of water industry professionals
  • Relationship-building access to key influencers involved in advancing water industry services, technology, and policy
  • Recognition as an environmental leader among peers, clients, and customers

Committees:
 • Utility Member Representative
 • Student Activities Committee Co-Chair

A fun fact or something we wouldn’t know about you: I am the proud fur-mom of a rambunctious Pembroke Welsh Corgi. I will show photos of him to anyone who talks to me for more than five minutes.

How long have you been part of the organization? I have been a member of WEF and CWEA since 2015.

What is your favorite part of the organization? My favorite part of the organization is having the opportunity to meet new people in the industry, including colleagues from my own utility that I likely wouldn’t have met otherwise! I’ve been fortunate to learn about different aspects of the industry from these new contacts and greatly benefited from the expertise of more seasoned professionals.

What made you choose the water world? During my undergraduate studies in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, I developed a strong interest in public health and its relationship to the environment. I ended up volunteering with Engineers Without Borders, where I experienced firsthand the importance of clean water and sanitation systems to communities. Eventually, I ended up getting my Master’s in Environmental Engineering, and I feel that the water world is a perfect mix of technical engineering work and public service.

What would you say to someone who was interested in getting more involved or volunteering in CWEA? Reach out to the chairs of any committees that pique your interest! In more typical times (i.e. when we’re not in the middle of a global pandemic), CWEA is always looking for motivated individuals to help out at events and take over outgoing leadership roles.

Jessica, thank you for your work for CWEA!

Zoe Gotthold is the winner of the 2020 U.S. Stockholm Junior Water Prize.

Gotthold, a student at Richland High School in Richland, Wash., developed prototypes of devices that promote oil flocculation at the surface and increase the efficacy of traditional oil spill remediation techniques. She won $10,000 and will represent the United States at the international competition in August.
